Soldiers Living In Iraq

To the soldiers living in Iraq today
I feel for you in every way,
Each moment your precious lives are on the line
As you courageously face danger of every kind

The sand is where you sleep
Never knowing if you may lose another as you go
A friend who has meant so much
Somebody you have always known.

With every step you are careful where you walk
A mine may come across your way,
The men and women in the USA
Send you their prayers today.

You are always on our minds
We live in freedom because we know,
Our brave American soldiers
Are caring for us so.

Please let us light a candle for you
To tell you, we always will be true,
The soldiers of The USA are with us
I will shake their hand when they come home
They are the greatest we could ever know.

THE SANDS OF IRAQ

I can see the sands of Iraq
My husband fighting back
The sand drifts so deep
To trudge on and on
With your weary feet
So hard to run
In that burning sun,
Never knowing if you may meet
A terrorist you must defeat.

My husband, I pray for you every night
That they will let you come home and kiss your wife
At night the sand storms of Iraq
Blow grit into your mouth
It is bad for you, with no end in sight
Your eyes must hurt tonight,
When you sleep in your clothes
The sand must chafe your skin
And irritate your heart within

My husband, all you have
Is to remember I love you
I know you will not be the same again
When you are through,
Can you trust the people you see
Life is so valuable
Will Iraq ever be free
If they do not want to be
I know there are good people
In Iraq who are lost
I ask God to help them at any cost

I know you will do your best
In the name of freedom
I will ask The Son of God to bless.

Freedom is like a precious jewel,
given to the USA by God.
The Silent Soldiers

Our brave men and women
Have said their good-byes
Their families were waving
With teardrops in their eyes

A mother quickly rushed home

And turned her TV on
But it's only been an hour
That her youngest son has gone

The men and women left behind
While their spouses go to war
Try to explain to their children
What we're fighting for

Every time a call comes in

Whenever the door bell rings
They shudder at the awful thought
Of what bad news war could bring

You are the Silent Soldiers
Doing much more than your share
And though we haven't seen you
We know that you are there

To all the children waiting
And to the families and friends
We hope that very shortly
Your loved ones will be home again

The sacrifices you will endure
Of facing each new day
You too have our prayers and support
Bless you and our USA

IF I EVER GO TO WAR
If I ever go to war Mom, Please don't be afraid.
There are some things I must do, To keep the promise that I made.
I'm sure there will be some heartache, And I know that you'll cry tears,
But your son is a Soldier now, Mom, There is nothing you should fear.
If I ever go to war Dad, I know that you'll be strong.
But you won't have to worry, Cause you taught me right from wrong.
You kept me firmly on the ground, yet still taught me how to fly.
Your son is a Soldier now Dad, I love you Hooah, Even if I die.
If I ever go to war Bro, There are some things I want to say.
You've always had my back, and I know it's my time to repay.
You'll always be my daybreak, through all of life's dark clouds,
Your brother is a Soldier now, Bro, I promise I'll make you proud.
If I ever go to war Sis, don't you worry bout me,
I always looked out for you, but I can't do that anymore,
Cause I'm a big bro to all in America.
I love you so much and you know that, Your brothers a soldier now Sis,
So wipe your eyes, I'll be fine even if I die.
If I ever go to war my Friends, We'll never be apart,
Though we may not meet again, I'll hold you in my heart.
Remember all the times we had, Don't let your memories cease,
Your friend is a Soldier now, Dear Friend, And I'll die to bring you peace.
And when I go to heaven, And see that pearly gate,
I'll gladly decline entrance, Then stand my post and wait.
I'm sorry Sir I can't come in, I'm sort of in a bind,
You see I'm still a Soldier Sir, So I can't leave them behind.

Honoring Our Soldiers and Veterans

They have walked in many Nations, and sands of distant shores,

stood guard with brothers through the night and kicked in many doors.

They took an oath for our land and together They stand strong,

even though some of you will always think it's wrong.

From battle field to barrack bed, together they stand proud

even when they stand in front of an angry fighting crowd.

They have buried heroes one by one taken before their time

because the call of freedom rang you see they hear the chime.

They will stand and fight today till tomorrow comes around

maybe then they'll hear the call of Peace for it has a different sound.

They will stand before our God and look him in the eye

and he will not turn away or even ask them why.

The battles they have fought my friend are battles for strong and weak

not because they want to fight and take what's not to keep.

They go where they are told to go and do what must be done

so you and others can have your lives while sitting in the sun.

They don't have to do this job no one told them too

but if they don't then what would happen if it was left to you?

So next time you see a Soldier walk by do not get on his case

look real close at where he's been then memorize his face

For this man walks in pride and honor for you and all around

but never will he beg or plead as that's an unknown sound

So today I ask for you to say a prayer for those who serve

For that is the RESPECT THAT THEY DESERVE

'TIL ONCE AGAIN THEY'RE HOME

Every day I see their pictures
In print or on the screen
The faces of these warrior lads
So young, so strong… so lean

The sight of them running
Towards the noise of war
And praying all together
Is something from our lore

Was this the way I looked…
So many years ago
Were you and I the images
Our fathers once did show

Oh keep them God today
Keep them safe from harm
Bring them home… whole again
Back to house or farm

Lord steel our courage now
To match these lads of ours
Endure our country's heart
'Til again they're at our doors

And help us end this war
And bring to them the peace
And comfort those among us
Whose warriors they've released

God bring us victory soon
Bring peace upon that land
With hope and love and justice
Please, as soon as can

And when at last our lads return
To place of hearth and home
Shelter them with all Your love
For the courage they have shown

THE MARINE.

We all came together,
Both young and old,
To fight for our freedom,
To stand and be bold.

In the midst of all evil,
We stand our ground,
And we protect our country
From all terror around.

Peace and not war,
Is what some people say.
But I'll give my life,
So you can live the American way.

I give you the right
To talk of your peace.
To stand in your groups,
and protest in our streets.

But still I fight on,
I don't bitch, I don't whine.
I'm just one of the people
Who is doing your time.

'm harder than nails,
Stronger than any machine,
I'm the immortal Soldier,
I'm a U.S. MARINE!

So stand in my shoes,
And leave from your home.
Fight for the people who hate you,
With the protests they've shown.

Fight for the stranger,
Fight for the young,
So they all may have,
The greatest freedom you've won.

Fight for the sick,
Fight for the poor,
Fight for the cripple,
Who lives next door.

But when your time comes,
Do what I've done.
For if you stand up for freedom,
You'll stand when the fight's done.

A Military Spouse's Prayer By Major James Phillips

Lord, give me the greatness, and pureness of heart
That I might easily see
The difference between duty to God and Country
And my soldier's love for me

Give me extra understanding Lord
So that deep inside I'll know
When duty calls, no matter when
My soldier will pack and go

Give me tasks I pray oh Lord
That I must do each day
To help those souls less fortunate
And pass time while my soldier's away

Whether duty is on our Homeland soil
Or in a foreign land
Keep my soldier safe and warm
And in Your loving hand

And if by chance Lord
Duty requires my soldier be in the field
Please keep the angels close at hand
To be a protective shield

And lastly Lord its patience I need
When deployment becomes quite long
Please comfort me by being there
So for my soldier I will be strong

Give me the knowledge that through my faith
We'll be together again
Spending all eternity
As partners, lovers and friends

A Tribute to our ANZACS
© Cas Van Loon

Down the road, four abreast, the marchers come
Marching with military precision to a solitary drum
All of them, proudly holding their head up high
Medals glistening in the sun as they march by.

It's the ANZACS, remembering their mate
Those left behind on battlefield, twist of fate
The scars of battle they visibly still wear
Often wondering what they were really doing there

With enthusiasm they answered to the call
Fight for their country, freedom for us all
It seems so long ago, and almost in vain
The misery, the heartbreak, terrible terrain.

There was no question of holding back, hesitating
Those able in body and mind gladly participating
Placing a heavy burden on loved ones, left behind
Strengthening many an emotional tie that did bind.

Noise of firing guns, mortar bombs, the confusion
The dying, the dead, chaos, no mere illusion
Friends buddies, comrades, before their eyes wiped out
That was the price they paid, staving off a total rout.

As the ANZACS, heads held high, proudly march by
The air is charged with emotion, some even cry
In memory of a loved one, husband, sister, brother
ANZAC day, my friends, is not like any other.
A COMBAT SOLDIER'S PRAYER by Gary Jacobson © 1999 This combat soldier's prayer,
Who has served his time in Hell,
Is may we learn the lessons of war well,
That we not doom future generations,
The same old tales of horror to tell,
To endure what in youth they see mistakenly as glory.
Oh God, do not let our children Repeat the same old story. Make it so that America's babies live to grow old.
In this land of the free and the bold.
Help us throw off the shackles of hate that bind And grow old in a life of a peaceful kind.
Teach us that there is no glory in war,
Nor honor there that brave men should not abhor.
Teach us instead, one for another our brothers to love. Shower us with thine Celestial message from above,
That we plant seeds of peace evermore
And make war-no-more!
But if I should die on some far, far away battlefield Know I answered the call.
For a grand principle of freedom to yield.
My fervent prayer is that death May not have been in vain Fighting for peace and right for the world to attain.
My brothers, American roses standing by my side
On alien soil dying In the summer of my youthful pride
All the leaves around me falling,
Now I'm lying here still, in sunshine and in shadow, Longing to hear, "brother next door, I love you so.
" For moldering in the soft ground below,
I feel you living and loving in the world above me
Standing tall because I fought that you might be...
Oh look ye down now, And tell me you still think of me Honor my red blood, spilt that others might stand free. Tell me that I did not give my all for you in vain
That brothers and sisters do not look upon my sacrifice With hateful, Or even worse, Uncaring disdain.
Do not forget me when my valley's hushed
And white with snow, Grass growing green in the summer of my meadow
Help me see the peace I lived and died for grow.
Make my lonely grave richer, Sweeter be...
Make this truly, "The land of the free And the home of the brave," I gave my life to save That I might too, lie eternally, Forever free...
Now as we stand not only on the precipice of war with Iraq, but have gone into the belly of the beast that is Iraq, into the valley of the shadow of war...
I offer this special prayer Irregardless of your feelings about the wrong or right of this war, it behooves each and every one of us to support our troops...
our nation's sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers.
To those who have seen duty clear, far and away from home...this prayer is dedicated to you. Bless You...and come home soon!!!

Soldiers Return

The soldiers stood proud
Their chest out
And backs straight
Except for their hearts
Disserted for years it seemed
Waiting patiently
Incapable to withstand the steady pain
Of the emptiness and lonely emotions
Trying not to show it
Still they stood strong and quiet
Pondering what was next
Questioning their very soul
Knowing for sure they were very confused
Stock-still they remained
Meditating in restraint
The burden of control
Hindered from their leathered hearts
Only to look more disturbed
Frustrated
Separated
Regulated
To whom they waved
Longing to be molded back to society
And thus attempting to forget the past
The killing
The Torture
Wouldn't be missed
Resentment much too great
And so they stand
Staring into the crowd
As they waved
Saturated in selfless depression
Hardly showing expressions
Not just one soul
But for all
Those who live in the shadows of guilt

Such is a true soldier…

My Son, My Hero

I hear the people say you are a hero
But it's hard for me to think of you that way.
For when I close my eyes and see you in my mind,
I only see my little boy and that is how you'll stay.

The uniform you wear today is different from the rest,
But reminds me of the other uniforms you've worn in the past.
You loved karate and sports, and worked so hard in Scouts.
All those little boy uniforms were put away much too fast.

I hear the flapping of the flag as it hangs there in the wind.
Again, I close my eyes and let the rhythm take me back.
There you are on stage with all the other kids from class;
Almost falling off the stand and giving me a heart attack.

When you were home on leave I'd sometimes hear you sing Cadence.
The words were different in your song but the voice was strong and clear.
You grew up and flew the nest even though I tried to hold on to you tight.
Wish I could have protected you more; could have kept you always near.

I hear the music drifting as if it's coming from a far off land.
It's way different from the rock and roll you'd have blasting in the car.
Sometimes I'd have to yell at you to turn your stereo down
But I wish I would of saved up all that noise in a jar to open up
And let some out in these quiet days when no one is around.

I hate that there is no more places that we must rush to be.
No more stages for you to walk across or sounds for you to make.
I hate I had to let you go and live so far away.
I hate an enemies' bullet from you your life did take.

I pray you are in Heaven now with other soldier angels.
And as I try to leave vengeance in the hands of God,
I say to you, "You will never be forgotten, my son, my hero,
Even though you now rest beneath this sod."

I will always love you…..

"I am the Mother of an American Soldier"

I give my complete and unwavering support
to my soldier. As my son serves the people
of the United States, so I humbly offer up
my prayers for his safety and the safety
and health of those he serves beside.

I respect his choice to adhere to a strict
moral code and a system of values that has
preserved our country for over two
centuries. I accept that my soldier's
first duty is to his country and I
understand that this sacrifice he
willingly makes is what keeps our
nation great.

I will never expect anything but the best
from my soldier, for I know that he is
capable. I know that a soldier's heart
is true and strong, and that my soldier
will endure.

I will never abandon my soldier,my son,
my love. I will love him unconditionally.
He will know I am there for him, even
when he is alone.

I am disciplined, emotionally and mentally
tough, learning to wait for phone calls
and letters or emails home. I, like my
soldier, am an expert.

I stand ready to do whatever I can do to
let my son, my soldier, know that we are
here for him, beside him, we love him and
I will pray for the swift destruction of
the enemies of our country. I am the
person who stood guardian of this man
who has become my soldier, now Our
Guardian Of Freedom and the American

THIS POEM IS DEDICATED TO

BROTHERS RECENTLY WHILE SERVING IN AFGHANISTAN. HE LEAVES BEHIND A WIFE AND
2 DAUGHTERS. THIS POEM IS WRITTEN FOR HIM.

FALLEN WARRIOR

A WARRIOR FELL TODAY
HOW HE IS REMEMBERED IS UP TO YOU
HOW WILL YOU REMEMBER HM?

WILL YOU REMEMBER THE WARRIOR?
WILL YOU REMEMBER THE HUSBAND?
WILL YOU REMEMBER THE FATHER?
WILL YOU REMEMBER THE SON?
WILL YOU REMEMBER THE BROTHER?
WILL YOU REMEMBER THE FRIEND?

THE WARRIOR STOOD BEFORE YOU
AND DEFLECTED DANGER BEFORE IT GOT TO YOU
HE DIDNT ASK FOR YOUR THANKS
HE DIDNT ASK FOR YOUR PRAISE
IT WAS SECOND NATURE TO HIM
THAT THIS DAY MIGHT HAPPEN WAS BEFORE HIM
AND STILL HE STOOD THERE

THE HUSBAND WAS THE MAN WHO LOVED HIS WIFE
HE TOO STOOD BEFORE HER AND DEFLECTED DANGER FROM HER
IT WAS SECOND NATURE TO HIM, HE DID IT WITHOUT THINKING
HER LOVE FOR HIM WAS ALL THE THANKS HE EVER NEEDED
HE LOVED TO MAKE HER HAPPY

THE FATHER WATCHED AFTER HIS CHILDREN
HE WATCHED THEM LIKE A WOLF PROTECTING ITS LITTER
DELIGHTING IN THIER SMILES AND LAUGHTER
HE ENJOYED PLAYING WITH THEM AND MAKING THEM HAPPY
HE MADE SURE THEY HAD THE BEST HE COULD AFFORD
GOING WITHOUT HIMSELF TO ACCOMPLISH THAT GOAL
TEACHING THEM RIGHT AND WRONG, WATCHING THEM GROW

THE SON WAS THE MAN WHO MADE HIS PARENTS PROUD
HE WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR THEM
THEY REJOICED IN ALL HE DID, THEY HELPED HIM GROW
THEY WATCHED HIM TRANSFORM INTO A MAN RIGHT BEFORE THIER EYES
MOVING FROM BABY TO LITTLE BOY TO TEEN AND INTO MAN
HE LOVED SEEING HIS PARENTS HAPPY AND ALWAYS DID HIS BEST
WHAT HE WAS AND WHAT HE STOOD FOR MADE THEM PROUD

THE BROTHER WAS THE MAN WHO WATCHED AFTER HIS SIBLINGS
HE PLAYED WITH THEM AND BICKERED WITH THEM AS WELL
THEY DIDNT ALWAYS AGREE BUT THEY LOVED EACH OTHER
HE STRIVED TO HELP THEM, AND THEY STROVE TO HELP HIM
HE LOVED TO BE AROUND THEM AND MISSED THEM WHEN HE COULDNT BE THERE
THIER BOND NO ONE COULD BREAK

THE FRIEND WAS ALWAYS THERE FOR YOU
YOU COULD COUNT ON HIM IN A PINCH
CALL HIM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND HE ALWAYS ANSWERED
HE WAS THERE WHEN YOU NEEDED A SHOULDER TO CRY ON
HE WAS THERE TO CELEBRATE YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
HE BACKED YOU UP WHEN YOU GOT IN OVER YOUR HEAD
AND ASKED FOR NOTHING IN RETURN

WHICH PART OF HIM WILL YOU REMEMBER
I CHOOSE TO REMEMBER THEM ALL
EACH AND EVERY PART MADE HIM WHAT HE WAS
I NEVER MET HIM BUT A BROTHER TO ME HAS BEEN LOST
HE WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED
MY BROTHER HAS FALLEN BUT HE IS NOT FORGOT

"SO THAT YOU DONT HAVE TO"

Six simple words that convey so much, I never personally knew the man
who spoke them, but in reading them my passion for writing once again
has stirred.

Why did I join the military?
Why did I give up an easy life?
Why did I swear to protect my nation?

SO THAT YOU DONT HAVE TO

Why did give up my life for so many years?
Why did I leave my parents and brothers and sisters at home?
Why do I leave my newlywed wife at home?
Why did I leave my children at home?

SO THAT YOU DONT HAVE TO

Why do I put my life on the line for people I dont even know?
Why am I willing to sacrifice my life?
Why did i go over to Iraq?
Why did I die?

SO THAT YOU DONT HAVE TO

A lot of people dont understand why
Some cant fathom it at all
The simplest reason I can give you is this

"SO THAT YOU DONT HAVE TO"

This is the answer Lcpl Lopez would give his friends when asked why he
was going over to Iraq
